Art Therapy on your Healing Journey
In addition to providing EMDR therapy, I am a licensed Art Therapist in New York. Many people feel that they cannot participate in art therapy if they aren’t already skilled, but that’s not the case. The power of creativity lives in everyone.
Art Therapy is a somatic, sensory approach to healing trauma, anxiety, depression, and other symptoms through nonverbal processing. It provides an excellent complement to EMDR therapy, talk psychotherapy, or all on its own. Read on to learn more in the FAQs.

Art Therapy is a version of psychotherapy that incorporates the power of creativity in your healing journey. Those who struggle with trauma, anxiety, depression, and other struggles often feel symptoms deeply in their nervous system. Art Therapy is a sensory approach to treatment that does not rely on words, and can help folks process their feelings nonverbally. It is often an excellent complement to EMDR treatment, as well.

YES! Art Therapy is for everybody. No art skills are required. There is no right or wrong way to make art in an art therapy session.

Every session is different and unique to you and your goals. Some folks make art every single session. Others prefer to incorporate art at different intervals. When our session includes art-making, I will verbally guide you through the process, and we will often take time to talk about what the experience brings up for you.

Creativity can be harnessed in surprising ways! A pen and paper is often enough to start with. If you are interested in a particular medium, such as paint, collage, or even digital art, I will help guide you through shopping options to help structure our work together, but buying supplies is never required.
